Jeffrey (Jeff) Hunkin

Tenor

Age 24

As the tenor, Jeff exudes an energy that is both heard & felt by every audience the quartet perform for. Singing sweet falsetto tones and full-voice colour is his forte, adding excitement to the ensemble sound. Jeff has sung for the Musical Island Boys since the year 2000, and has a decade of experienced finesse and seasoned techniques, effectively complimenting the barbershop sound.

Jeff has a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Sonic Arts and World Music) and Media Studies, and plans to utilise his degree for a future in the Music Industry. His hobbies are composing and producing music of all different kinds. He currently works as an Account Manager for in Wellington at Trade Me, New Zealand's Number One online shop.

Marcellus (Lusa) Washburn

Lead

Age 25

Lusa possesses a natural performance charisma and a unique presence that is both distinctive and endearing to audiences all over the world. He leads this quartet onstage with a passion and conviction that draws audiences in, unmatched by any in the barbershop world. His charm is supposedly his greatest asset, after his dimples, of course!

Lusa spent high-school excelling in both the sport and music arenas, and has continued proficiency in both areas. He currently works as the Transitional House Manager for the Salvation Army Church.

In his spare time, Lusa enjoys playing touch rugby, and is a faithful and long-standing member the Sallies Church.

William (Will) Hunkin

Baritone

Age 25

Will brings a high degree of performance accuracy and heartfelt musicality to the demanding role of baritone. Will has been active in this quartet since its inception in the year 2000, and continues to develop his skills as both a singer and entertainer.

Will holds a Degree in International Relations from Victoria University, 2008, and currently works as the Media Sales Executive for Trade Me Jobs, NZ's major recruitment website.

Matthew (Matt) Gifford

Bass

Age 25

Matt brings presence and vocal flexibility to the role of the bass singer, producing a warm, rich, and resonant sound that sets the foundation of this quartet. Heartfelt performance, as well as musical delivery, are the assets Matt possesses, that leave audiences worldwide stunned at the degree of skill and mastery in his bass sound.

Not only is he a great singer, but also an accomplished MC and entertainer. Matt has featured on several Wellington Musical shows as the MC, and has hosted several TV programs in New Zealand, including for Maori Television Waitangi Day Specials. His desire and willingness for community service has seen him win prestigious awards for community service in Wellington, and possesses an unselfish and driven desire to make things better for people from all walks of life.

Matt is currently completing a degree in Maori language studies, Music, and teaching, and works for New Zealand's Ministry of Education.
