Jeffrey (Jeff) Hunkin

Tenor

22 Years Old

As the tenor, Jeff exudes an energy that is both heard & felt by every audience the quartet perform for. Singing sweet falsetto tones and full-voice colour is his forte, adding excitement to the ensemble sound. Jeff has sung for the Musical Island Boys since the year 2000, and has a decade of experienced finesse and seasoned techniques, effectively complimenting the barbershop sound.

Jeff has a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Sonic Arts and World Music) and Media Studies, and plans to utilise his degree for a future in the Music Industry. His hobbies are composing and producing music of all different kinds. He currently works as the Stores Co-ordinator in Wellington at Trade Me, New Zealand's Number One online shop.

Marcellus (Lusa) Washburn

Lead

23 Years Old

Lusa possesses a natural performance charisma and a unique presence that is both distinctive and endearing to audiences all over the world. His charm is supposedly his greatest asset, after his dimples, of course!

Lusa spent high-school excelling in both the sport and music arenas, and has continued proficiency in both areas. He is currently studying at Victoria University towards a combined Arts and teaching degree, specializing in Maths and Music.

While Lusa is not singing or studying, you can find him working for Kiwibank’s Insurance department in Wellington as a key member for Customer Service and Business Representation. In his spare time, Lusa enjoys playing touch rugby, and is a faithful and long-standing member of the Salvation Army Church.

William (Will) Hunkin

Baritone

24 Years Old

Will brings a high degree of performance accuracy and heartfelt musicality to the demanding role of baritone. Will has been active in this quartet since its inception in the year 2000, and continues to develop his skills as both a singer and entertainer.

Will currently holds a Degree in International Relations from Victoria University, 2008, and is currently involved in the Sales Profession. In his spare time, Will is an accomplished Classical Guitarist, and performs locally at a restaurant on Sunday evenings. He is also a Hip-Hop/Rap music enthusiast, and has continued this musical hobby from an early age, performing as a rap artist in several locations over the years.

Matthew (Matt) Gifford

Bass

23 Years of Age

Matt brings presence and vocal flexibility to the role of the bass singer, producing a warm, rich, and resonant sound that sets the foundation of this quartet. Heartfelt performance, as well as musical delivery, are the assets Matt possesses, that leave audiences worldwide stunned at the degree of skill and mastery in his bass sound.

Not only is he a great singer, but also a fairly accomplished MC and entertainer. Matt has featured on several Wellington Musical shows as the MC, and has hosted several TV programs in New Zealand, including for Maori Television Waitangi Day Specials. His desire and willingness for community service has seen him win prestigious awards for community service in Wellington, and possesses an unselfish and driven desire to make things better for people from all walks of life.

Matt is currently completing a degree in Maori language studies, Music, and teaching. In his spare time, Matt spearheads the Barbershop Youth Movement in New Zealand, currently serving as the National Youth Coordinator on the New Zealand Association of Barbershop Singers (NZABS) Board.
